AGU Fall Meeting 2024 Workshop
Open Data Curation and Image Analysis in Digital Rocks Portal (PREWS5)
-
Date/Time: 8 December 2024, 8:30 – 12:00 EDT
-
Instructors: Maša Prodanović, Maria Esteva, Bernard Chang, Cinar Turhan
Description
This workshop focused on analyzing three-dimensional images of geologic materials acquired from computed tomography (CT), micro-CT, and focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM). Participants were instructed on how to curate 3D image data in the Digital Rocks Portal and perform image analysis to characterize porous materials. The hands-on portion of the workshop used Jupyter Notebook workflows for practical experience in visualizing 2D and 3D images and quantifying properties such as porosity, tortuosity, and Minkowski functionals. The class combined presentations with hands-on exercises in Python, and all open-source code was shared via GitHub.
InterPore Conference 2025 Course #3
Importance and Quantification of Interfaces in Porous Media
-
Date/Time: 23 May 2025, 9:00 – 12:00
-
Instructors: Dorthe Wildenschild, Maša Prodanović
Description
This workshop explored the quantification of interfacial areas (fluid/fluid and fluid/solid) in porous media using high-resolution 3D x-ray microtomography data. The session reviewed the importance of these interfaces and discussed challenging applications, such as three-phase flow and biofilms. For the hands-on portion, participants uploaded a research dataset to the DPMP (Digital Rocks Portal at that time). They then used Jupyter Notebook workflows and the open-source Digital Porous Media Tools to practice quantifying and visualizing the interfaces within the data.
